Prosthetic valve endocarditis due to Neisseria mucosa.
Non-gonococcal non-meningococcal Neisseria sp. normally inhabits the upper respiratory tract in human beings. There are four recognized species within the genus: N. sicca, N. mucosa, N. subflava and N. flavescens. They have low pathogenicity. Among them, Neisseria mucosa and N. sicca have been described to cause endocarditis. To our knowledge, this is the fourth reported case of prosthetic valv...

Piercing invades subcutaneous areas and has a high potential for infectious complications. The number of case reports of endocarditis associated with piercing is increasing. We studied a 25-year-old man with a pierced tongue, who arrived at Memorial Health University Medical Center with fever, chills, rigors, and shortness of breath of 6 days' duration and had an aortic valvuloplasty for correc...
متن کاملNonfebrile mitral valve endocarditis due to Neisseria subflava.
Native valve endocarditis normally presents with fever and only later in its course demonstrates dysfunction of the affected valve. We describe a case of endocarditis due to Neisseria subflava, a Gram-negative diplococcal saprophyte of the oral cavity, which was unsuspected clinically and found unexpectedly during a mitral valve operation performed for symptomatic prolapse with regurgitation.
متن کاملProsthetic valve endocarditis due to Neisseria skkuensis, a novel Neisseria species.
We describe the first reported case of endocarditis due to Neisseria skkuensis. The organism from the blood cultures taken on admission day was identified initially as unidentified Gram-negative cocci by Vitek2. Finally, it was identified as Neisseria skkuensis by 16 rRNA gene sequence analysis.

Identifi cation of novel Hsp65 RFLPs for Mycobacterium leprae. To the Editor: Tongue scraping is advocated as a therapy for managing halitosis and as a technique for preventing dental caries by reducing bacterial counts in the mouth (1). The practice has been in existence for centuries (2). A Cochrane review has concluded that tongue cleaning is marginally and temporarily more effective than us...
